Regulations

The VV Cup consists of two stages; the first one is open for everyone. The top-placed teams of this stage receive “an entry ticket” to the Main event (scheduled for September, 4-6th). Those three days are indeed a great opportunity to meet the world-class bridge “Stars” and enjoy top-quality bridge in luxury environment. Finally yet importantly, the participants of the Main event receive attractive cash prizes. Who knows – may be, it will be your team’s name completing the list of finalists?

Preliminary stage

 

Played at the Vilnius Grand Resort. This stage is open for everyone. A team should consist of no more than 6 players, the entry fee 50 euro/player will cover the two days of the play, if registered before August 1st, and 100 euro/player for registration after August 1st.

6 matches being over, the top teams (the exact number is to be defined depending on the total number of participants) will continue playing in Final A keeping 75% of VPs won, while the remaining ones will continue playing in Final B keeping 50% of VPs won.

  • The top-6 teams from Final A and the 1st team from Final B will continue playing in the Maintournament. The team placed 7th in the Final A and the team placed 2nd in the final B will meet in play-off (an additional 4-boards match). The team from Final A has a +0.1IMP carry-over. The winner will join the Main tournament.
  • An entry fee will cover 3 days of playing (Friday, September 4th – Sunday, September 6th) and makes 50 euro/person.
  • Teams qualified for the Main tournament from the Preliminary stage will get from the Organizers free accommodation (next to play venue).

Main tournament

 

Played at the IDW Esperanza Resort, 8 qualifiers from the Preliminary stage meet 8 teams invited by the Organizers and seeded (distributed across the tournament roster) in accordance with the rules to be announced by the Organizers as soon as the list of invited teams is completed.

Friday, September 4

  • Seeded teams (the teams invited by the Organizers) choose the opponents in accordance with the rule: The #1 seeded team gets to choose first. The #2 seeded team gets to choose next etc.
  • The seeded teams are to win at least one match in Round of 16 vs. the same opponent. If a seeded team wins the 1st match, this team will enter Round of 8 immediately. Its opponents enter Swiss Teams. Otherwise, the 2nd match is to be played. The winner of the 2nd match will enter the Round of 8, another team enters Swiss Teams.
  • It means, that aiming to qualify for the round of 8, the team from Preliminary stage has to win two matches vs. the same opponent.

Along with the Main tournament, International Bridge Festival Vilnius Cup will be held in Vilnius [played at the Vilnius Grand Resort] on September 4-6th. Entry fees and prizes are to be announced.
